There will be a special meeting of the RAWSUG on April 5th at 6PM in room 70-1400 in the Golisano building on the RIT campus. Our guest will be Jeff Barr, the chief evangelist for Amazon Web Services. It should be a really great meeting and I encourage anyone who is interested in AWS to attend.

We have the big auditorium room and we are expecting a good crowd. You may want to RSVP on the meetup page (http://www.meetup.com/rawsug/calendar/12752086/). You can also post comments there about particular topics you would like to see covered

RAWSUG on meetup.com

Hi -

Since a number of other local groups are using meetup.com to organize and build their communities, we are going to give it a try, too.

Visit us at http://meetup.com/rawsug and get signed up!

Mitch

BTW, I would recommend just signing up at Meetup.com rather than here. I am exploring ways to take the current membership here and sign them up but so far it doesn't look like it's possible. If you are already signed up here, please re-join the Meetup group. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cloud Architectures – Amazon Web Services

January Meeting

On January 31st, we will be holding a meeting and focusing on the Amazon SimpleDB service. This service was revealed to the public in December 2007.

"Amazon SimpleDB is a web service for running queries on structured data in real time. This service works in close conjunction with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), collectively providing the ability to store, process and query data sets in the cloud. These services are designed to make web-scale computing easier and more cost-effective for developers." - http://aws.amazon.com/simpledb

- Mitch Garnaat and David Kavanagh will discuss the service itself and using it from boto and typica.
- Mitch will discuss a python object persistence layer for SimpleDB.

The Next rawsug.org meeting

The Rochester Amazon Web Services Users Group would like to announce our next meeting. It will be on October 18th in the Fletcher Steele Room in the Pittsford Public Library. The meeting will run from 6-8pm. Wireless internet is available, so feel free to bring a laptop and participate with the demos.

The meeting will feature the following;

  • David Kavanagh will introduce the Java client library, typica and discuss/demo it's usage with EC2 and SQS.
  • Mitch Garnaat will give a brief introduction to the boto Python library for AWS and then demo a boto "mashup" that combines several AWS services into a single, simple to manage interface to EC2 servers.
